Today I had a really long think about the dreams I’ve had in my life, what I really would like to achieve with the time I have here on earth, and after a talk with a friend who is working a job of which I am totally jelly, I remembered a dream I had as a youngster.
When I was in my early teens, it was my dream to open a bookstore. Not just any bookstore, but a new age bookstore, that sells not only books, but crystals, tarot decks, and other magical paraphernalia. I envisioned cosy chairs, and a tea/coffee station, and healing rooms at the back of the store that could be used for massage, reiki, crystal healings, etc. A warm, cosy, inviting store where you could spend five minutes or the entire day.
I got giddy re-imagining this dream today. And I’m now wondering if this is something I could achieve. I know anything is possible – it’s just a matter of the right timing. Stores such as this don’t last long around my area, but at the moment there are so many different shops empty ready for lease. I feel like I could really give it a good shot. I have customer service experience, I have financial experience. But I don’t have the upfront money to start this venture. So I guess the hard part is – how do I begin?
Do I start by selling books & other tools from home, on Facebook and from an online store? How do I afford the stock? I would certainly need a risk management plan in place in case things didn’t go so well. I would need to repay debt if I borrowed money from a bank, which is a risk within itself.
More thinking required, obviously, but this is something I could do along with being a childbirth educator/doula, being that that would not be a full-time role.
